A number of organizations are benefitting from virtualization, including small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). However, many SMBs face challenges with virtualization and implementation of their private cloud. They don’t have the luxury of a big IT team or substantial budget to start with. But they still have the same IT challenges as other enterprises – agility, innovation, doing more with less, the need for high availability and DR. Is there a quicker and better way for deployment of private cloud infrastructure for SMBs? EMC’s VSPEX Proven Infrastructure, a converged infrastructure solution, can help accelerate SMB’s IT Transformation journey. One of the key advantages of adopting Proven Infrastructure is that it allows SMBs to leverage existing infrastructure or choose a technology which they are familiar or comfortable with – including server, network and hypervisor; and can be combined with EMC’s storage and data protection. These technologies are critical in building their virtual infrastructure or private cloud based on reference architectures proven by EMC or its Trusted Resellers. To further reduce the complexity, skills and resources demanded from SMBs to deploy their IT infrastructure and solution quickly, resellers can ship an entire solution stack on the Proven Infrastructure which is already validated, integrated and tested for interoperability. For example, it is possible to ship a prebuilt, pretested and pre-validated infrastructure for 1000 virtual desktops based on VMware View or Citrix XenDesktop. As demonstrated among the VSPEX customer stories, SMBs are able to deploy the infrastructure in weeks and within their budgets, which would have been previously difficult and time consuming with their limited resources to upskill, design, build, deploy, integrate and test the solution. In addition to lean and nimble operations, many SMBs rely on technology to thrive in their business. The ability to offer innovative and competitively priced services and products is essential. Virtualization on a Proven Infrastructure provides SMBs with the scalability and availability of IT that grows in step with their businesses. As a bonus, they are not dependent upon having a large IT team maintain and support their software automation efforts. SMBs can also tap into professional or consulting services from outside vendors to develop and provide a set of standard practices and operating procedures for the new infrastructure. Thus reducing the steep learning curve while allowing their IT teams to get up and running quickly. With this newly acquired IT capability, SMBs can instead focus on innovation and be free to roll out new services and products faster and cost efficiently. This can include developing mobile applications and services on their virtualized infrastructure or providing on-line e-services which allow their customers 24×7 access to their services and products and extend their reach to new geographical markets. Hence, it is now possible for SMBs’ IT to better support their businesses requirements. SMBs are not the only parties who will stand to benefit from a Proven Infrastructure. Value Added Resellers (VARs) are now able to leverage the EMC VSPEX to provide complex solution stack in a box. VARs can prebuild, configure, and test the solution before it is shipped to the customer. Not only can the VARs replicate the solution easily for many customers, they can also deploy their solution faster with lower risk, higher quality and less problems. For example, a VAR can deploy a customer portal solution on Sharepoint, including the software, server, network and storage, using the VSPEX reference architecture for Sharepoint. This opens up a huge business opportunity for VAR to offer IT-as-a-service in a box. Cloud has driven increased demands for infrastructure standardization, virtualization, and software automation. It allows organizations to achieve the agility and efficiency that they need to operate more efficiently. As discussed in this blog, the flexibility and availability of choice offered by Proven Infrastructure allow SMBs and VARs to roll out their Private Cloud effectively to achieve their business goals. |
