Question: What should be on every agency’s must-have list, but is difficult to find? Answer: A FedRAMP-certified Cloud Service Provider (CSP). Why? So far, the joint certification board has issued just 14 certifications. As reported in InformationWeek, one certified CSP is Virtustream, a Bethesda-based CSP that migrates, runs, and manages mission-critical applications in the cloud. Virtustream has been approved by the Department of the Interior as a FedRAMP-authorized supplier of services. Why We’re Excited Good news for our Federal customers: EMC recently announced the acquisition of FedRAMP-approved Virtustream as our new managed cloud services business. With the addition of Virtustream, EMC will continue to accelerate customers’ journeys to move all applications to cloud-based IT environments – acting as a single source for hybrid cloud infrastructure and service needs. Today, we offer the Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Solution – an on-premise private cloud offering that provides on-ramps to public cloud services such as VMware vCloud Air. The VMware Government vCloud is also FedRAMP-certified. New Managed Cloud and Services Capabilities Virtustream brings a managed cloud software and services capability to the EMC portfolio – whether on or off premise – which we will incorporate into the Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Solution. By adding Virtustream, EMC will enable customers to move their entire application portfolio into a cloud environment. In another recent piece, InformationWeek writer Charles Babcock notes that Virtustream and VMware both offer basic Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) with virtual machine self-provisioning and automated management. Virtustream is hypervisor-neutral, and oriented toward managed applications. Our chairman and CEO, Joe Tucci, said it best, “We could not be more delighted that Virtustream will be joining the EMC Federation family. It’s a game changer.” Welcome to the family. More on Cloud:
